The Riverbend Village Apartments had a fire on the evening of July 28, 2024. Though we do not know the cause of the fire yet, we do know that the complex did not have sprinklers. See https://www.reviewjournal.com/local/local-las-vegas/apartment-complex-where-fire-killed-2-had-no-sprinklers-officials-say-3118753/. Two people were killed.
Sadly, the County appears to have retreated from mandating retrofitting for sprinklers. But, we have to ask, how much is it worth to save the life of one person let alone two? How much has the complex made off of rent? Certainly the owners (all who of course live in another State) can take some of that money to protect the lives of those who pay rent.
